Andy Vargas ran for a city council seat in his hometown of Haverhill in 2015. Vargas ran at just 22 years old and with the help of the Blue Lab, became Haverhill’s first Latino city councilor. In his campaign, Vargas emphasized all the different things that Haverhill has to offer to businesses and community members, and even developed an app called ‘Activate Haverhill’ to bring businesses and customers together. The Blue Lab helped Vargas express these beliefs and more.
After winning his city council race and working with business owners in Haverhill, Andy made his way to the State House by defeating Republican Shaun Toohey in a 2017 special election to fill the vacancy left by Chairman Brian Dempsey. He was able to keep his position in the state house by winning the regularly scheduled election just a year later in 2018. The Blue Lab is proud to have been early supporters of Andy, and we look forward to seeing what he accomplishes in the future!
